WEEK OF FEBRUARY 27 - MARCH 2, 2012



IMPORTANT:  THE TEST ON THE PLAY, "WHERE ARE ALL MY ANIMAL FRIENDS?"  WILL BE ON WEDNESDAY, FEB. 29TH.  THE SPELLING TEST WILL BE ON TUESDAY FOR THOSE STUDENTS WHO DID NOT EARN A 100 ON THE PRE-TEST.  THERE WILL BE A MATH ASSESSMENT ON TUESDAY TOO (THERE IS REALLY NO WAY TO STUDY FOR THE MATH ASSESSMENTS, EXCEPT TO PRACTICE THE MATH FACTS AND DO THE HOMEWORK EACH NIGHT.

ALSO, FRIDAY WE WILL CELEBRATE "READ ACROSS AMERICA" AKA DR. SEUSS' BIRTHDAY.  WE WILL HAVE VISITORS FROM BLOOMSBURG UNIVERSITY.  TWO GRADUATE STUDENTS WILL COME AND READ A DR. SEUSS BOOK AND DO SOME ACTIVITIES WITH THE CHILDREN.

  1. MONDAY>DAY 1>ART> READ THE PLAY AND STUDY H/F WORDS.  DO MATH FACT WORKSHEET.  STUDY FOR SPELLING TEST (UNLESS YOU EARNED A 100 ON THE PRE-TEST)

IMPORTANT:  SINCE WE HAVE A SHORT WEEK WE WILL NOT TEST ON THE PLAY(OUR NEWEST READING SELECTION) UNTIL NEXT WEEK (PROBABLY NEXT TUESDAY).  WE WILL HAVE THE SPELLING PRACTICE TEST ON FRIDAY; THEN HAVE THE RETEST ON THE FOLLOWING TUESDAY FOR THOSE WHO DID NOT EARN 100.

WEEK OF FEBRUARY 13-17, 2012

FIRST GRADE NEWS

THE NEXT TWO WEEKS WILL EACH BE FOUR DAYS FOR STUDENTS.  THIS FRIDAY, THE 17TH WILL BE AN ACT 80 DAY (NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS) AND THE FOLLOWING MONDAY WILL BE AN IN-SERVICE DAY FOR TEACHERS, SO AGAIN STUDENTS WILL BE OFF.  THEY WILL HAVE A 4-DAY WEEKEND FOR PRESIDENTS' DAY!

WE WILL HAVE OUR SPELLING PRACTICE TEST ON WEDNESDAY AND THE SECOND TEST ON THURSDAY.  WE WILL HAVE OUR READING STORY TEST ON THURSDAY (ON "I'M A CATERPILLAR").  WE WILL ALSO HAVE A MATH WRITTEN ASSESSMENT ON THURSDAY.


SINCE THE STUDENTS ARE OFF ON FRIDAY, WE WILL SEND HOME THE FRIDAY FOLDERS ON THURSDAY.  YOU SHOULD LOOK FOR YOUR CHILD'S PROGRESS REPORT IN THE FOLDER (THESE DO NOT NEED TO BE SIGNED OR RETURNED).  IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THE REPORT, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CONTACT ME BY E-MAIL OR BY PHONE.


OF COURSE THE BIG NEWS THIS WEEK IS THE VALENTINE'S DAY PARTY ON TUESDAY AFTERNOON.  PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD BRINGS THEIR VALENTINES FOR THE CLASS BY TUESDAY MORNING.  WE WILL DELIVER THE VALENTINES AT THE PARTY AND THEN, HAVE OUR SUNDAES, DRINKS AND CHEESE PUFFS.  THERE WILL ALSO BE SOME TIME FOR SOME FUN GAMES.

WEEK OF FEBRUARY 6-10, 2012

FIRST GRADE NEWS
THIS IS THE ANTI-BULLYING WEEK;PLEASE REFER TO THE SCHEDULE THAT WAS SENT HOME TO PREPARE YOUR CHILD FOR THE DAY.
REMEMBER TO WORK ON YOUR CHILD'S VALENTINES (they should write the cards;they are all capable). SEND THEM IN WHENEVER YOU HAVE THEM DONE.
THIS WEEK WE WILL TAKE AN EXTRA DAY TO STUDY THE STORY AND SPELLING LIST. THEREFORE, THE TESTS WILL NOT BE UNTIL THURSDAY (THE SPELLING PRACTICE TEST WILL BE ON WEDNESDAY). "FROG AND TOAD" STORIES ARE CHILDREN'S FAVORITE, SO WE WILL READ SOME EXTRA STORIES THAT ARE NOT IN THE TEXTBOOK.
IN MATH, WE WILL BE USING A RULER FOR THE FIRST TIME TO MEASURE A LINE SEGMENT. THEN WE WILL BE CREATING A STORE IN OUR CLASSROOM SO THAT STUDENTS CAN DO 2-DIGIT ADDITION USING PENNIES AND DIMES FOR THREE DAYS.
