Week of November 9-13, 2009

kindergarten newsletter
This week our letter is consonant Mm as in monkey. We'll be working on hearing and identifying the initial and final sounds heard in words. Also, we will play a game to practice rhyming words. We will unblend words and count the sounds. Lastly, we will read a new phonics booklet called "Hop on the Mop." Your child will bring it home. Please read it with your child and keep it in the special box.
In Reading we will begin a new book called "Armadillo's Orange." It is an animal fantasy about what lives in an orange grove. We will be working with the letter Ss in this story. Many children are familiar with this sound, but confuse it with Cc. We will discuss proper nouns, setting and sequence. Please continue to practice the high frequency words.
In Math, we'll be working on the end of Chapter 3 which includes a lesson on estimation, another math storybook and, then, review and testing. Then we will start working on numbers 6 to 10 in Chapter 4.
It's hard to believe the the first marking period is over and it is less than 3 weeks until Thanksgiving. We will be learning about the Pilgrims and Native Americans until Thanksgiving.
