FIRST GRADE NEWS
This week we will start our first Reading Unit on Animals-both tame and wild. We will study words with the short a sounds. We will study sentences-what they are and how to write them.
Homework
Monday - Labor Day
Tuesday - read new story; study new spelling words; do math worksheet 5B
Wednesday - reread story; study spelling words; do math worksheet 6B
Thursday - reread story; study spelling words (test tomorrow); do math worksheet 7B
Friday - Friday Folders will come home; please review papers and sign and return on Monday
Parents: This week we will only have a Spelling test on Friday since it is a four day week. Usually we will have a pre-test on Thursday and students who earn 100 will not have to take the test on Friday (they earn "free-time").
Also: we will start our ticket behavior management program; each day your child will receive three tickets. S/he will keep tickets in snack bags in his/her desk. At the end of the week, if s/he has at least 12 tickets then s/he can participate in our Friday activity period. Children will lose tickets for breaking classroom rules (they will receive a warning). Students can earn tickets back with good behavior. Shorter weeks will mean fewer tickets will be required for earning the Friday privilege.
Please remember: Friday is "School Photo Day" (absent students can have photos taken on "retake day" which is announced at a later date.
